Film seminar and screening

5 November 2024

The National Library, Oslo

10 am – 3.15 pm: MAP welcomes everyone to the seminar «Norwegian literature and international film 1900-1950» on film adaptations of works by Johan Bojer, Sigrid Boo, Sigrid Undset, Henrik Ibsen, Knut Hamsun and more, in the Nordic countries, Nazi-Germany and the US. Presenters are Anne Bachmann, Audun Engelstad, Øivind Hanche, Eirik Frisvold Hanssen, Thor Holt, Janicke S. Kaasa, Aina Nøding and Anna Sofia Rossholm.

6 pm: Cinemateket screens the Hollywood-film The Face of the World (1921, dir. Irvin Willat) for the first time in 100 years. It is based on a novel by Johan Bojer and restored by the National Library of Norway. Introduction by Eirik Frisvold Hanssen.

Workshop 2, 2024

25 – 27 September 2024

Lillehammer

A workshop investigating topics from WP 2, headed by Aina Nøding. It will take place at Sigrid Undset’s Bjerkebæk in collaboration with Lillehammer Museum.

Invited guest speakers are Dean Krouk (Wisconsin), Jenny Bergenmar (Gothenburg), Miluse Jurikova (Brno), Kristin Brandtsegg Johansen and Cecilie Skeide (Lillehammer). The programme includes a tour of Karoline and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson’s home Aulestad.

Horten/Holmestrand

A workshop investigating topics from WP 1, headed by Narve Fulsås. Invited guest speakers and commentators are David Gedin (Uppsala), Kjetil Jakobsen (Nord), Siri Nergaard (USN), Max Richter and Jørgen Sneis (both München), Stina Aasen Lødemel and Olav Øyehaug Opsvik (both Nynorsk Kultursentrum). The programme includes a tour of writer Olav Duun’s home in Holmestrand.
