Reading Rooms

The National Library of Norway in Oslo offers various reading facilities for different study materials. 

Most materials are not accessible for public browsing, but may be requested for retrieval to the Reading Room. In order to do so you need a library card. The material retrieved to the Reading Room are restricted to library use only.

Wi-Fi

The National Library of Norway’s Wi-Fi service provides access to information services, databases and search tools. Wi-Fi can be used to connect portable computers and to access the National Library of Norway’s public network.

Reading Room

The Reading Room is located on the first floor and is open to users of the library’s collections and students bringing in their own books. Reading Room seats cannot be reserved in advance.

The reference collection in the Reading Room primarily comprises general reference works in various specialist areas, along with a local and genealogical collection. A photocopier is available. Copy cards can be bought in reception on the ground floor.

Microfilm

The library houses all Norwegian newspapers ever published. The library offers newspapers in digital format on nb.no and  on microfilm.

Special Reading Room, ground floor

The National Library of Norway also has a Special Reading Room providing access to private archive material, photographs, old and rare prints and maps and similar artefacts. Materials used in the Special Reading Room must be ordered at least one day in advance. Special rules apply to use of the material.
